Leeming Intermediate Jazz Band

In 2002 the Leeming Big Band (LBB) was established for members wanting to play swing and jazz music. Since that time the LBB has matured and developed an excellent reputation; the band performs throughout the year and positions in the band are highly sought after.

With the success of the LBB and demand from more members to play swing and jazz music, LACB established the Leeming Intermediate Jazz Band (LIJB) in late 2025. The LIJB offers the opportunity for current LACB members and new members to play in a jazz band while developing their skills. The LIJB is a full jazz band, including a wider range of instruments such as flute and clarinet. We draw on our experience and knowledge of adult community
band development to help aspiring performers to develop their proficiency and experience in a supportive group environment.

The LIJB plays jazz, swing, rock and roll, funk, latin and popular music from sheet music and also compendium books. The band gives those interested in jazz a chance to develop their ability to play solos and improvise if they wish to.

The LIJB rehearses from 9 to 10am each Saturday during the school term. The rehearsals are held at the usual LACB rehearsal venue – Southern Districts Senior Citizens Centre, Willagee.
